Contemporary Mosaics for Home & Garden
Story

Craft matters
Hand crafted mosaics
As a jeweller turned mosaic-maker, step into my world of vibrant colour and shimmering beauty. Inspired by the elegance of floral nature and the intricate patterns of Gustav Klimt and Margaret McDonald Mackintosh, each mosaic creation is a fusion of sparkle, texture and radiant hues.
The surrounding landscape of Shropshire continues to inspire and excite me. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted, utilising both bought and donated stained glass to fashion wall panels, mirrors and an array of decorative treasures for both the home and garden. My practice has become more itinerant, harking back to the medieval travelling craftspeople, but with the contemporary twist of creative hot-desking at English Bridge Studios and working from my home office in Shrewsbury. Wherever I lay my tile nippers, so to speak!
From delicate floral motifs to bold geometric designs, my mosaics add a touch of enchantment to any space. With exhibitions showcasing my work and representations by galleries across the UK, my creations have audiences far and wide. You can also find me on the Craft Council's Maker Directory too.

Inspiration, commissions and new work

Trena Cox: Reflections 100 'Apertures'
Chester Cathedral Invitation Exhibition
An exciting invitation led to the creation of 'Apertures 1' in 2024. In response to the work of Arts & Crafts stained glass artist Trena Cox, I was inspired to create a landscape mosaic, across four windows or apertures. The Shropshire landscape from the vineyard at Hencote, and the walled garden borders at Hodnet Hall provided the source material.

Southward & Westward
Shropshire-inspired Mosaic Wall Art
Using elements of Apertures 1, the landscape around me in Shropshire continues to inspire my current mosaics. These two roundels were created for an exhibition at the Grosvenor Museum in Chester in 2025. The landscape of Housman's A Shropshire Lad, with the 'blue remembered hills' is something that resonates with me. I always catch my breath when you can see across the patchwork of fields, with the hedges and roads creating patterned graphic lines across the view.

Portal I
Shrewsbury Arts Trail 2024
With the theme of 'Time' this free-standing piece was inspired by the Shropshire countryside. Drone photos from Wenlock Edge, with the rich patterning of the fields and landscape informed the design.
Private Collection.

Coronation Community Mosaic
Tattenhall, Cheshire
To celebrate the coronation of King Charles III in May 2023, the village of Tattenhall invited me to lead the making of a commemoration mosaic in 2024. Pupils from Tattenhall Primary, members of the local community and Ukrainian refugees participated in this project.

Constellations Exhibition
Chester Cathedral - April 2022
British Association of Modern Mosaic threw out the challenge to create a mosaic inspired by Constellations. My clock, inspired by the Horologium constellation, was selected and went on display as part of this UK and International mosaic exhibition at Chester Cathedral. It was quite a moment to see it up on display amongst such brilliant makers.

Jubilee Tree
Community Art Project - May 2022
It is always lovely to be invited to partner in a really worthwhile project, and Clare from Lovelyland in Shrewsbury had been waiting for us to join up to deliver a fabulous project. We couldn't let the jubilee pass without creating something glorious with the community for their community garden in Castlefields. Paul's Patch is part of a private garden given over for use by local groups in the area and beyond. To create the mosaic we held a day's rolling workshop at the Wildflife Trust and watched over 50 people create a beautiful tree - which has subsequently been included in the prestigious Shrewsbury Art Trail!

Mosaic Bird Feeders
Birthday Present Commission
What do you create for a bird-loving gardener for a special birthday? Having discovered these terracotta earthenware ovoid shape bird feeders, they were just crying out to be covered in beautiful mosaic. Each of the five feeders are a different colour scheme and quite a challenge to work in 3D, but the clients were thrilled with the result - in fact they say they are too beautiful to hang in the garden!

80th Birthday Commission
Birch Forest
After discussion with the recipient, the final 30 x 30 cms design was inspired by Klimt's forest paintings in Austria. It incorporated various favoured elements including the snowdrops in the foreground.

New Home Commission
Iridescent Dragonfly Mirror
This 30 cms diameter mosaic dragonfly mirror was commissioned as a new home gift. The design incorporates more pastel colours than my usual palette but the client was thrilled!

Whixall Primary School
Arts Week 2022
This was a glorious three-day residency at Whixall Primary School, set in the beautiful remote marshlands and canals of North Shropshire. Everyone from Nursery to Year 6 came to work with me in our pop-up studio. The six panel piece is destined to be installed in the school Quiet Area garden.

Opportunity Pre School
An anniversary
To mark the 30th anniversary of the pre-school being set up, the school community decided on a mosaic to brighten the front of the building. All the children and their parents and teachers had an opportunity to help create part of the artwork.

Private Commission
Six Panel Tree Mosaic
The commission was to create a series of six panels, each a variation of a tree design.

Sixteen Hearts
Wedding Commission
A romantic commission to create sixteen heart garden stakes for a couple renewing their wedding vows. One for each year of their marriage.

Mosaic Pop-Up Garden
Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery
SMAG approached me to take part in a project linked to the Shrewsbury Food Festival, promoting healthy eating and growing your own food. I worked with museum visitors to create a series of two panels using the highly floral and decorative Coalport ceramic collection for inspiration.

Battlefield Blooms
Exhibition January - March 2018
To mark the centenary commemoration of the end of WW1 and at the Theatre Severn a new production of Poppyfields The Musical, there was be an exhibition of artists' work responding to those themes.

Farewell Present Commission
School Installation
What to buy a school community on retiring was a question posed by a local primary teacher. She decided on commissioning a bespoke mosaic to be mounted on an exterior wall for the children to enjoy.

London Garden I
Inspiration
Series of mosaic roundels 50-30cms in diameter. This commission started with one roundel on the back wall and using a metal lizard water feature as inspiration.

Hampton Wick School Newt
And everybody helped!
This four by two metre mosaic was designed and made with pupil and staff input. The newt is the school emblem and red was their school colour. Children from Nursery through to Year 2 came to work in the pop-up workshop and were very proud of the finished mosaic.

Marvellous Mosaic Workshops
One-day introductory mosaic workshop
If you would like to learn the basics about making mosaics then this is the workshop for you. The workshops are held at English Bridge Workshops in Shrewsbury.
During the one-day workshop you will learn about mosaic materials, adhesives, backing boards and basic cutting techniques. There's no need for paper designs as we will work directly with the materials and finish the day with grouting your piece. Mosaic is a very mindful craft, so the aim is for a creative and calm experience.
Fantastic days workshop. Both myself and my friend thoroughly enjoyed the day. Left on a high after producing works we were proud of, due to Lindsey being a brilliant tutor. We learned so much in a matter of hours and in a lovely relaxed environment too. Great value for money, great way to get creative. What more can we say other than thank you so much Lindsey.
