Hello!
There is definitely a nip in the early morning air and the trees are starting to acquire their autumnal finery. Absolutely my favourite time of the year, maybe yours too? It is always fascinating to see how the nature around me influences the colour choices in my work.
Below is a Golden Dragonfly mirror recently sold through Ferrers Gallery in Leicestershire.
Seasonal shopping ...
I thought it was time I gave a shout-out to all the fabulous galleries that already stock my work, and to flag them up as great places to shop for unique British-made crafts. I am very pleased to say that the VK Gallery in St Ives, Cambridgeshire has recently asked me to show work in their upcoming Christmas exhibition starting on 1st November so I am hoping this the start of something exciting.
If you are in and around Shropshire then you can find my work in The Linden Tree Gallery in Much Wenlock who have been tremendously loyal supporters since opening the studio over five years ago. Other galleries well-worth a visit are also Canvas & Clay in Ellesmere and catch up with the lovely Sam who owns it and in Visual Arts Network in The Darwin Centre in Shrewsbury.
Further afield take time to visit Susannah and her team at Fitch & Fellows in Thame, Oxfordshire and Emily who runs Studio Vault in Settle, North Yorkshire. Both fabulous emporiums of the best of handmade art and craft. If you are in the Herefordshire area then do pop into Oxenham Art Gallery to see a lovely collection of art and craft curated by Alice.
For those of you nearer to Leicestershire you may well already know about Ferrers Gallery, situated in the beautiful surroundings of Staunton Harold near Asby De La Zouch. They are celebrating twenty years in the business supporting British crafts.
Last, and no means least, if you are around the wonderful seaside town of Llandudno on the North Wales coast take time to visit Mostyn Gallery Shop. There are always interesting contemporary art exhibitions on and the shop draws on makers from around Wales and the Borders so I sneak in being in Shropshire! Barry, who runs the shop, has been a fantstic supporter of my work for many years and I love making deliveries up to him, just to see the sea and him, of course!
Event updates
Even though I've been making new stock for Christmas since August (!), and trying not to panic about completing all my orders. I thought I should let you know where you can come and meet me in the run up to Christmas.
Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th November 2022 - Shropshire Guild of Contemporary Craft's 'Gorgeous' show, Enginuity, Ironbridge Gorge, 10am to 5.00pm each day. Lots of Shropshire makers sharing their fantastic work, a great event to buy local unique and handmade gifts and talk with SGCC members. I missed this show for the past two years (obvious reasons), so I'm so pleased to be back this year.
Saturday 26th November & Saturday 3 December 2022 - Starry Flowers Open Studios. We will throwing open the studio doors to invite you to a sparkly seasonal opportunity to see new work. This year we are doing things a little differently by opening on two consecutive Saturdays, rather than a weekend. I will be showing work in my downstairs studio along with the gloriously decorative hand-painted velvets by Textile artists Parker & Arrol in the upstairs studio. You can find us in the courtyard at 38a and 38c Wyle Cop, Shrewsbury SY1 1XF. We are joined by the very talented artist Linda Edwards, who will be showing her gorgeous gold-leaf and watercolour paintings in her home studio in Quarry Place in Shrewsbury and it is always a beautifully curated exhibition! I absolutely love her gilded work.
Of course I will open the studio during December (Mon-Fri, 10am to 4pm) but it is worth making an appointment by calling 07768 132 280 to arrange a time.
