What's happening where
I know it's early but here is a gentle reminder for dates for your diaries that the Shropshire Guild of Contemporary Craft will be staging their wonderful 'Gorgeous' show on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19th November at Enginuity in Ironbridge. This is one of the best shows to see over 40 Shropshire makers and designers under one roof, showing handmade and unique gifts.
Winter Open Studios are now being planned! The theme for this year is The Midnight Garden, so expect new work that is deep indigo blue, gold and with flashes of colour. I'm working on a richly embellished decorated surface for my mirrors and tree-inspired wall panels. The studio will be open on Saturday 25 November and Saturday 2 December, 10am to 5pm. There will also be gifts for the home, garden and you, including brooches, coasters and new decorations.
Studio 38c Wyle Cop, Shrewsbury SY1 1XF
The studio will also be open by appointment during December should you miss any of the events and you can still buy via my online store. Just click on Shop section above.
Hand crafted mosaics
My studio is hidden away in a small historic courtyard in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. It is in the stable of what was William Hazeldine's house at the bottom of the Wyle Cop. He was one of the Ironmasters of the Industrial Revolution, so it is an amazing environment to work in with other craft workers.
I design and make contemporary mosaics for the home and garden. Originally I trained as jeweller and silversmith at Birmingham School of Jewellery, and now transferred many of those gem-setting skills to larger mosaic designs. I am attracted to using highly reflective materials and exploring surface patterns, textures and colour.

Directory of Makers
My work is listed in the Craft Council Directory of Makers, and was a landmark moment in developing my craft practice.

Commissioned work is always very welcome so please use the contact page to make an initial enquiry.
"We commissioned a piece of mosaic work from Lindsey for my mother’s birthday, and the result was outstanding. It included exactly the elements that she had asked for, and she was delighted with it - a unique piece of art that will be treasured."
Review from Michael Corlett, 'Birch Forest' Wall Panel
My mosaics are also on display in my studio (visits by appointment) and currently at VAN Gallery in Shrewsbury, Linden Tree Gallery in Much Wenlock, Willow Gallery in Oswestry, Mostyn Gallery in Llandudno, Fitch and Fellows in Thame, Studio Vault in Settle, Oxenham Gallery in Leominster, Room 15 in Oban and VK Gallery in St. Ives, Cambridgeshire.
You can also find me in the Maker Directory on UKHandmade and Madebyhandonline.
You can also purchase some of my smaller items on Etsy by searching for LKPortfolio. Larger mosaics are available in my website shop here.
My profile is included in the Crafts Council Makers Directory and I am a member of the Shropshire Guild of Contemporary Craft and the British Association of Modern Mosaic.
I also run mosaic adult workshops for beginners in my studio and multi-media/mosaic school workshops.
Mosaics
Made to commission and studio mosaics.
Constellations Exhibition
Chester Cathedral - April 2022
British Association of Modern Mosaic threw out the challenge to create a mosaic inspired by Constellations. My clock, inspired by the Horologium constellation, was selected and went on display as part of this UK and International mosaic exhibition at Chester Cathedral. It was quite a moment to see it up on display amongst such brilliant makers.
Jubilee Tree
Community Art Project - May 2022
It is always lovely to be invited to partner in a really worthwhile project, and Clare from Lovelyland in Shrewsbury had been waiting for us to join up to deliver a fabulous project. We couldn't let the jubilee pass without creating something glorious with the community for their community garden in Castlefields. Paul's Patch is part of a private garden given over for use by local groups in the area and beyond. To create the mosaic we held a day's rolling workshop at the Wildflife Trust and watched over 50 people create a beautiful tree - which has subsequently been included in the prestigious Shrewsbury Art Trail!
Mosaic Bird Feeders
Birthday Present Commission
What do you create for a bird-loving gardener for a special birthday? Having discovered these terracotta earthenware ovoid shape bird feeders, they were just crying out to be covered in beautiful mosaic. Each of the five feeders are a different colour scheme and quite a challenge to work in 3D, but the clients were thrilled with the result - in fact they say they are too beautiful to hang in the garden!
80th Birthday Commission
Birch Forest
After discussion with the recipient, the final 30 x 30 cms design was inspired by Klimt's forest paintings in Austria. It incorporated various favoured elements including the snowdrops in the foreground.
New Home Commission
Iridescent Dragonfly Mirror
This 30 cms diameter mosaic dragonfly mirror was commissioned as a new home gift. The design incorporates more pastel colours than my usual palette but the client was thrilled!
Whixall Primary School
Arts Week 2022
This was a glorious three-day residency at Whixall Primary School, set in the beautiful remote marshlands and canals of North Shropshire. Everyone from Nursery to Year 6 came to work with me in our pop-up studio. The six panel piece is destined to be installed in the school Quiet Area garden.
Opportunity Pre School
An anniversary
To mark the 30th anniversary of the pre-school being set up, the school community decided on a mosaic to brighten the front of the building. All the children and their parents and teachers had an opportunity to help create part of the artwork.
It's just a Daisy
Mosaic Gardens
Latest work in my mosaic floristry has been more about miniature garden, taking the garden stakes I usually make and working to about 10% of their size. The steel rods are really fine and the flowerheads bob as the wires vibrate with any movement.
Makers' Showcase
Mostyn Gallery, Llandudno
My mosaics have been selected for various showcases events at the prestigious Mostyn Gallery in North Wales
Private Commission
Six Panel Tree Mosaic
The commission was to create a series of six panels, each a variation of a tree design.
Sixteen Hearts
Wedding Commission
A romantic commission to create sixteen heart garden stakes for a couple renewing their wedding vows. One for each year of their marriage.
Mosaic Pop-Up Garden
Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery
SMAG approached me to take part in a project linked to the Shrewsbury Food Festival, promoting healthy eating and growing your own food. I worked with museum visitors to create a series of two panels using the highly floral and decorative Coalport ceramic collection for inspiration.
The Mosaic Florist
New Design Direction
What started as a way of utilising those annoying off-cuts of backing board, the flowerhead series has developed.
Battlefield Blooms
Exhibition January - March 2018
To mark the centenary commemoration of the end of WW1 and at the Theatre Severn a new production of Poppyfields The Musical, there was be an exhibition of artists' work responding to those themes.
Farewell Present Commission
School Installation
What to buy a school community on retiring was a question posed by a local primary teacher. She decided on commissioning a bespoke mosaic to be mounted on an exterior wall for the children to enjoy.
Flowerhead Commission
Garden Interventions
As part of a garden being opened to the public during the National Garden Open Garden Scheme 2018, a client wanted to include some 'garden interventions', just in case flowers were late to bloom! Altogether there were three designs created, anenome, daffodil and peony with three flowerheads of each.
London Garden I
Inspiration
Series of mosaic roundels 50-30cms in diameter. This commission started with one roundel on the back wall and using a metal lizard water feature as inspiration.
Hampton Wick School Newt
And everybody helped!
This four by two metre mosaic was designed and made with pupil and staff input. The newt is the school emblem and red was their school colour. Children from Nursery through to Year 2 came to work in the pop-up workshop and were very proud of the finished mosaic.
Marvellous Mosaic Workshops
Studio-based one-day introductory mosaic workshop
If you would like to learn the basics about making mosaics then this is the workshop for you. It is held in my studio in Shrewsbury in the calm surroundings of a historic courtyard, just off the Wyle Cop.
I wanted to say thank you for a fantastic day.
You’re willingness to share your expertise to help course participants get the most out of the experience was perfectly balanced… excellent teaching, support and encouragement to experiment and have fun. I am delighted with my dragonfly piece and hope to be able to return again one day. The trip down from Newcastle upon Tyne was so worthwhile.
Sue Fortune-Duffy (September 2022)
During the one-day workshop you will learn about many of the mosaic materials, adhesives, backing boards and basic cutting technique. There's no need for paper designs as we will work directly with the materials and finish the day with grouting your piece. All materials and tuition are included in the £85 fee. Lunch is not included but feel free to bring your own or visit one of the many local delicious cafes nearby.
To book this creative and relaxing day just send me a note via the contact page to make a booking.
There is a workshop date available on Saturday 6th April 2024 at Willow Gallery in Oswestry. Please book directly with Willow Gallery by clicking on this link.

Primary school art workshops
Tailor-made to suit your school
I am a fully qualified and experienced primary teacher. Workshops can be booked for half or full days, several days or as part of your school's arts week celebrations. Workshops focus on children exploring a new artistic skill and often working collaboratively on one piece of artwork. Schools may have a site-specific piece in mind that they would like to display. I also work on mixed media art projects as well as mosaics.
The Mosaic is amazing!! We are all so pleased! The children love it! Thank you for your hard work!
